Elena was only 13 when she stepped onto the stage to perform Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song.” Dressed in a simple gray dress with white sneakers, she sang with poise and concentration. But it was clear right from the beginning that the judges were about to be blown away.
Although her performance was void of any frills, it didn’t need them. Her voice stood on its own. By the time she was finished, the judges, her family backstage, and much of the audience were in tears.
They wore shirts emblazoned with her name and cheered her on as she sang. Many of them were moved to tears as well by Elena’s striking performance. Some of them even hugged one another and jumped up and down out of excitement for their friend.
And of course, the highlight of the audition was judge Maja Šuput, who was overcome with emotion. She immediately gave Elena her Golden Buzzer, which put her straight through to the Croatian semifinals.
