The mother cat was seriously burned because she rushed into the burning cage to save the kitten

Motherly instincts cause the mother cat to rush into a burning cage to rescue her kittens.

After a barn in Edmonton, Canada, caught fire in mid-July last year, a semi-feral mother cat bravely rushed into the flames to rescue her kittens.

The mother cat’s legs, belly, face and fur were all badly burned. Miraculously, the mother cat was able to survive this tribulation.

Sadly, the fire claimed the lives of the kittens, with only 1 of its 4 cubs surviving.

Both mother and child were taken to the Furget Me Not cat rescue group. Even though the facility is overcrowded with abandoned animals, they still make an exception for these two poor kittens.

“When an emergency like this happens, no matter how busy we are, we try to do our best. Cat adopters are amazing, and we’re constantly trying to find ways to not let such cats suffer,” Furget Me Not’s Christine told 660 News.

Because the mother cat needed medical attention, she was separated from her kittens. The kittens are kept nearby so the mother cat can see them.
“This beautiful mother cat is a hero,” they wrote on their Facebook page. “When the barn he called home caught on fire, he jumped into the flames several times trying to save his children.”

“This brave mother cat endured unimaginable pain, while still trying to care for her surviving kitten.”

The rescue group told the news agency that adoption rates at their facility have skyrocketed during the pandemic, as many pet owners have abandoned their pets because of the high cost of keeping them.
At the same time, the team also found that some people didn’t take care of their pets because subsidized foster programs weren’t working.

Furget Me Not Animal Rescue and other places are full, they are looking for potential pet owners.

Ms. Christine added: “If you want to contribute to animal rescue, now is the time, if you are considering adopting a pet, excitingly, things are reopening and we could go out to continue the rescue, but our facility is really full, and these animals are still coming in.”
