Hooded Grebe courtship dance, rare footage from “Tango in the Wind”

The video captures the scene of two hooded diving birds dancing together in the paradise of Patagonia at the southernmost tip of the Americas.

Like true Tango dancers, two hooded diving birds are passionately engaged in a powerful and seductive pairing dance – a courtship ritual typical of these birds.

Diving bird (hooded grebe) is one of the rarest birds in South America. Beautiful and attractive in appearance, the diving bird is an alarmingly endangered species on the verge of extinction. Habitat elements are destroyed, invasive, entangled and hunted by other species, seriously threatening the life of hooded diving birds.

The video was posted by National Geographic as part of the documentary film “Tango in the Wind” to promote and call for conservation of the rare hooded diving bird. The film crew took up to 6 months in Patagonia, South America to be able to shoot interesting and extremely detailed footage of this bird.
