Jessica Mauboy fans will see history re-created when her niece, Saraya Mauboy-Hudson, auditions for The Voice this week.
The 18-year-old is walking in her aunt’s footsteps — Mauboy shot to fame at 16 after her appearance on Australian Idol.
“We are really close,” Mauboy-Hudson told AAA of her relationship with her aunty. “I (have watched Jess’s Australian Idol audition), it was so incredible to watch, to see from where she started and where she is now, and knowing she has always been insanely talented. It was something that I was also nervous to live up to.”
WATCH Tears, cheers and ALL of the feels! The superstar Coach spins her chair to find her niece Saraya standing in front of her, singing her heart out.
The quietly spoken Darwin-raised teen had no idea that one of her family members would be sitting one of The Voice chairs. “I didn’t know she was going to be a judge until early this year, so it made it more nerve-racking to know she was going to be in one of those chairs,” Mauboy-Hudson admitted.
The high school graduate has revealed her talent is no fluke. “It’s definitely genetic,” she said. “Everyone can sing, my mum (Jess’ older sister) is probably one of the biggest influences, I think on all of us, she was the big singer in the family, but everyone can sing.”
