Usually, men cover songs that were originally sung by women. And rarely are those covers good because they sing on different keys than the original song. But Fernando Daniel’s cover of “When We Were Young” is an absolute exception.
Not only does he do the song’s justice, but he’s also able to give the song a new life from his own point of view.
Daniel, a singer-songwriter born and raised in Estarreja, Portugal, sang this song during his audition on The Voice Portugal season four in 2016.
Daniel also covered another female artist’s song for his final performance of “Chandelier” and it was just as spectacular as Adele’s cover. That video had about 3 million views.
Daniel went on to win the fourth season of The Voice with his cover of Sia and Callum Scott’s “Dancing On My Own”. After winning The Voice, he entered the RTP Festival of Song 2017 to be able to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, where he placed fifth.
