Elephants’ maternal instincts show that animals and humans are sometimes more similar than you might have guessed. If you’re a parent or babysitter before, you’ve probably been in the same predicament as this loving mother elephant.
After doing your best to get your baby to rest, just moments later you find yourself hovering over the crib to make sure they’re okay. You put your hand gently on their back or belly to make sure they’re breathing, the same way this mother elephant does with her trunk for her baby while sleeping in the sun.
While this adorable baby elephant is completely healthy as shown in the video, the mother is worried because it did not wake up. At this point, she doesn’t know what to do.
The staff of the Prague Zoo immediately noticed the conflicting desires going on as the mother calf wanted the calf to wake up while the calf wanted to take a nap, but were still waiting to see what she would do about the situation. What happens next is absolutely fascinating. The mother elephant’s reaction was absolutely heart-melting.
