Charly Luske blew the coaches away with his incredible blind audition with James Browns hit “This Is A Man’s World”. After singing the first line, all the coaches turned their chairs!
He chose to cover one of the most difficult R&B songs for his blind audition.
But of course The Voice Holland judges couldn’t see Charly turning his back on him. So he would have to convince them in another way that he was the right man to do the soul justice to “Is this a man’s world?” by James Brown.
Charly was singing “blind” for his audition on The Voice Holland, and the only thing that mattered to the judges, at least for this first round, was how good or bad his vocals sounded.
The song is an often sloppy cover that few “mans” in this world can achieve with any real weight.
It’s not that the song itself is hard to sing – the vocal range is actually quite easy to achieve. It’s just that not many people are wired for the slow, quivering grooves that are at the heart of R&B soul!
with a brilliant voice like his, it’s hardly surprising that Charly was able to capture the judges’ attention seconds after opening his mouth.
One after another, the chairs lit up with “I want you” and one of the judges even had his hand raised in the air.
Even with their chairs facing forward, the judges couldn’t get enough.
The male judge at the end started to wildly press the magic red button on his console, as if to confirm that, yes, he absolutely made the right decision. Another judge gave Charly a standing ovation even before he was halfway through his performance, while a third was mesmerized by his voice.
