Roman Abramovich and Ukrainian peace negotiators are said to be victims of poisoning – but the US is suspicious
A US official cast doubt on claims that sanctioned Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich and Ukrainian peace negotiators were victims of a poisoning incident earlier this month.
The three men including Mr Abramovich suffered from symptoms including red eyes, constant and painful tears, and peeling skin on their hands and face, a source confirmed to Sky News, following a meeting in the territory. Ukraine was reported on March 3.
According to a person close to the matter, Mr Abramovich lost his sight for several hours.
The investigative website Bellingcat said the symptoms were “consistent with poisoning with a chemical weapon”.
However, a US official said on Monday that “intelligence indicates” the cause was environmental, “not poisoning”.
