When Jodi Bird stepped on stage, she wanted to sing her heart out with the classic ‘Don’t Rain On My Parade’. But she had barely started when Simon cut her off. But Jodi believed in herself, and just look what happened next!
Musical theater is not quite Simon Cowell’s idea of good music. When Jodi Bird auditioned for season 8 of Britain’s Got Talent singing a song from a ’60s musical, he made that pretty clear. He was quick to halt her audition to request “a better song.” Something that probably would make most auditioning hopeful’s hearts drop. Not Jodi! She was able to rebound, sing another song and make Simon admit, he was too quick to judge. Did Simon finally learn his lesson?
Jodi Bird who was 16 at the time, had a love for performing. Something Simon was admittedly too quick to take away. Choosing to sing “Don’t Rain On My Parade” from the 1964 musical “Funny Girl,” a song choice that ended up more of a statement. We quickly learn that this girl does have an incredible voice. The crowd gets in high spirits but Simon was is not thrilled. Bringing the audition to a halt, with much disapproval from Amanda Holden and the audience, Simon tells her “I can’t listen to this.” The other judges disagree and expressing their enjoyment of the performance. David Walliams mentioned he thought “it’s a shame Simon cut that short.”
