Ever since Judy Garland first sang the poetic tune of “Over the Rainbow,” artists at home and abroad have added their unique spins to the classical soundtrack. Benedetta Caretta’s performance cannot be missed. Best known for her duets with Croatian cellist Stjepan Hauser, Benedetta Caretta has created several covers using her evocative and ethereal voice. A few notable ones are Secret Garden’s “You Raise Me Up” to Ed Sheeran’s “Photograph”.
She first hit the music scene in 2010, when she was on “The Voice of Italy” where she made it to the final before she even entered. She then performed as a special guest in the following years until 2013.
“Over the Rainbow” is possibly her strongest performance yet. Instead of trying to recreate the iconic sound of Judy Garland or compete with the pure Israel Kamakawiwoʻole tunes, Caretta did something completely different. Her voice was as dreamy as the words she sang. Her melody drifts with each verse and draws listeners along. Her heartfelt song pulls you in and lifts you up.
