Recently, a couple just celebrated their 81st wedding anniversary and earned the title of ‘England’s longest lasting couple’. However, at first, this marriage was not supported by their friends.
Mr. Ron and Mrs. Joyce Bond are 102 and 100 years old this year, they are living in Bucks in the English town of Milton Keynes. The two were married on January 4, 1941, and have been prime ministers for 15 generations.
Joyce said: ‘We never thought we would live together for 81 years, so fortunately we have reached this incredible number.
Joyce used to work at the Woolworths store chain, she shared about her previous job: “It’s really great! We have no distinction between employees and bosses, we give and take together.”
As for Ron, who was a soldier in World War II, later working at a local auto repair shop, he expressed his heart like his wife: “Sometimes life is very difficult. , but we take care of each other, overcome all challenges.”
At that time, the couple “just met and fell in love”, they registered their marriage at the Newport Pagnell Registrar, at that time the old man was only 21 years old and the old woman was only 19 years old. They later had 2 children named Eileen and Bill.
Ms. Eileen said her parents’ friends thought their marriage wouldn’t last when they got married.
She explained: “When they got married, it was said that they wouldn’t live together for too long, how could those people be so wrong?”
“My parents are truly an encouragement to everyone, not only my sisters and me, but also their grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grand son as well. Just being with them will let you know that they love and care for each other, even though they have been married for 81 years.”
Ron and his wife celebrated their 81st wedding anniversary at ExtraCare Shenley Wood Nursing Home in Milton Keynes, where they now live in an apartment.
Bill’s son arranged for the two to receive a special reception and was praised by the presenter on BBC Radio 2.
Before that, two great-grandparents Ron Golightly and Beryl Golightly were the couple who held the record for “England’s longest-lasting couple” living in Yorkshire. Ron Golightly unfortunately passed away last December, at the age of 101 after 80 years of marriage.
