Carter Lloyd Horne, auditioned for The Voice on NBC and was offered something a little different. He was a singer already well known around Marietta, but now he is known all over the world. How did he get on the stage of The Voice?
Even though Carter was born into a wealthy family with old money when he was only fourteen, the family lost everything due to estate mismanagement and the 2008 economic crisis. His life has radically changed; he went from living in a huge house to a motel. Music becomes an escape for him.
After graduating, Carter wasn’t quite sure what he wanted to do next. In an interview, he explained: “I knew I really liked music, but I didn’t know that it could actually be a career for me at that point… I was a little lost after graduating. of the diploma, but I started to play a few of the concerts at local restaurants near Marietta Square and things like that. I started to realize that this was what I wanted to do.
Pursuing this goal, Carter decided to audition for The Voice during an open call in Atlanta. To his surprise, he kept getting called back until he was finally asked to audition for the show in the blind audition round.
For his blind audition, the young singer chose the song “Drinkin ‘Problem” by Midland. Right away, the coaches were able to tell that there was something unique about Carter. He had a different voice quality than most country singers today. The crowd quickly began to cheer as the coaches discussed among themselves the possibility of turning their chairs, and her parents nervously watched backstage.
Almost at the very end of his song, no one had turned their chair yet. It seemed like Carter’s dream maybe should go somewhere else, but just as he handed his final note, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton both hit their buzzers for the laid-back country singer. It was close!
Kelly was clearly impressed. She told him, “The most interesting thing about you is that you felt like you were literally 50 years old. We haven’t heard from anyone like you, especially your age.
